About this Item: Bulgarski Khudozhnik, Sofia. Kechko Uzunov; Liuben Ziarov (illustrator). Quarto. 40p. Bulgarian Language. The Columbia Guide to the Literatures of Eastern Europe since 1945 notes that he was among the most popular Bulgarian writers especially with his telling of fairy tales. Often writers in the Soviet era found it safer to stay within genres aimed at children. The Great Soviet Encyclopedia hints of this in the article on his fame noting also he was given to "social contradictions". Although a later edition appeared in 2006, no copies of this 1966 edition are reported in OCLC. Laid in is a typed summary in English of the three stories. Bound in pictorial paper covered boards backed in yellow cloth, light wear to corners and edges. A very scarce item in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 018593

About this Item: Nov path [New way], 1929. Soft cover. Condition: Good. Zhendov, Alexander (illustrator). 1st Edition. 19/13 cm., 64 p. Only this book and "Horo" (Round dance) by Anton Strashimirov are prose works published by September authors. Quot.: "Aleksandar Zhendov's cover design is regarded as one of the most notable examples of avant-garde book illustrations in Bulgaria: a folkloristic motif depicting a peasant with a sickle cutting grain stalks, turns into a constructivist, contrast-rich icon of the revolution, into the grim reaper of the bourgeoisie - Mansbach 2007, 26 and 29 (fig. 26); Richter/Olshowsky 1990, p. 308" - from Domenico Jacono: "Bulgarian modernism 1919-1934, books and magazines", p. 40, cat. N30. This copy is with gray type of the original publisher's wrappers (the other one is yellow).
