About this Item: SF: City Lights Books, 1969., 1969. Though unattributed, the poster features inspired psychedelic, spiritual art by poet Daniel Moore who was the founder, writer, and director of this "sacred folk theater group." The troupe gained notoriety performing at various counterculture venues such as the Family Dog and the Fillmore, but the Apocalypse performance was one of two "major musical ritual dramas" that the ensemble produced during their short existence. Founded in 1966, this avant-garde theater group disbanded in 1969, the same year as this performance. During their existence their ever-changing cast of dancers, musicians, poets, and actors included Angus Maclise, Ramon Sender, light show artist Daniel Conrad, Terry Riley, musician Marc Allen, as well as various hippie amateurs intrigued by the group's theory of provoking "ecstatic release" with their performances. Single pin hole to top section, barely perceptible horizontal center crease, faint touch of toning and trivial handling impressions to bottom edge, very nice overall (14" x 8.5"). Scarce item relating to this mystical ensemble who were very much reflective of the Bay Area zeitgeist of the period. Seller Inventory # SKB-16687

About this Item: Ira Cohen Bardo Matrix, Kathmandu, Nepal, 1975. Condition: Near Fine. The Bardo Matrix Press was founded in Kathmandu in the early 1970s by original Velvet Underground drummer, artist, and poet Angus MacLise and poet, photographer, and publisher Ira Cohen as a publishing outgrowth of the Colorado artists’ collective of the same name. MacLise and Cohen commenced to issue pamphlets, booklets, posters, books, and broadsides by not only themselves and their fellow travellers, but also by some important names of post-war literature: Paul Bowles, Gregory Corso, Diane Di Prima, and Charles Henri Ford were among the chosen. The publications were printed in editions of anywhere from a couple of dozen to a few hundred, usually utilizing fine printing techniques such as wood blocks, letterpress, special inks, and handmade paper. But this was not based on traditional thoughts on fine printing, but rather on the opportunity to create something cheap and beautiful. There was a built-in audience for these publications on ‘Freak Street’ in Katmandu, where people in the circle of Bardo Matrix operated a small bookshop which did decent business selling wood-block printed headshop posters alongside poetry broadsides, these publications, as well as second-hand English language paperback books. After the 1979 death of Angus MacLise, the activity of the Bardo Matrix Press quietly faded out. Poetry series. Seller Inventory # 178

About this Item: George Maciunas [1969], NY, 1969. 20.5 x 23.5 inches. Black calligraphy printed on white stock, folded as issued. Some tanning to paper, else a very good example. Similar to MacLise's renaming of the days in the earlier 'Year' , 'The Universal Solar Calendar' renames the days of the year, but in this format prints the phrases in his characteristic calligraphic hand, producing a full artwork that actually seems to take itself a bit more seriously than most of the multiples produced by Macianus at the time.Fluxus Codex page 398. OCLC locates only one example, included in the Angus MacLise papers held by Columbia University. Seller Inventory # 28826

About this Item: [Angus MacLise] [1965], NY, 1965. 9.5 x 12 in (24.13 x 30.48 cm). Some toning to paper, light crease to middle from folding, else very good. Original flyer for a collaborative artistic venture from then couple Angus MacLise and Frances Stillman, this promotes the event hosted by the Film-Makers’ Cinematheque on May 28, 1965. ‘Rites of the Dreamweapon’ was a seven-part ‘Manifestation of the Presence’ coordinated by Angus MacLise which made its festival debut in November of the same year at Jonas Mekas' New Cinema Festival and its more than likely the Velvet Underground was a participant in this performance. About this Item: Filmmaker's Cinematheque [1965], NY, 1965. Original 18 x 8 inch placard printed in thick blue ink on blue stock. Two old creases from folding, some minor wear and a couple of small tears, else very good. A beautiful and uncommon piece of avant garde cinema history. Original placard for the multi day, multi media presentation of MacLise's Rites of the Dreamweapon staged during the first week of Jonas Mekas' New Cinema Festival [Expanded Cinema Festival]. In November and December of 1965 Mekas presented an extensive series of multimedia productions including artists such as Angus MacLise, Jack Smith, and Nam June Paik among others. It's possible, but not confirmed that The Velvet Underground took part in the events. [ White Light/ White Heat: the Velvet Underground Day by Day page 58]The program for the first week consisted of the following: 'Rites of the Dreamweapon II' [MacLise]; 'The Stagger Mass' [Jerry Joffen]; 'The Mysteries of the Essence Chamber' [MacLise]; Epiphany of Light [Don Snyder]; 'Rehearsal For the Destruction of Atlantis' [Jack Smith]; 'Rites of the Nadir' [John Vacarro]. Though not noted here, on the evening of November tenth saw the screening of Piero Heliczer's 'The Last Rites'. Seller Inventory # 28831
