About this Item: New York: Pageant Press, Inc., 1955., 1955. First edition (as stated upon copyright page). [10], 85 pages. Hardcover: H 22.25cm x L 14.25cm. Dust jacket with chipping and nicks at edges and along rear flap fold, some soiling and toning to yellow rear panel, toning to front flap and front free endpapers caused by publisher's original but strongly toned and edge-worn folded publicity sheet/press release quoting the praises by South Carolina poet and writer Archibald Rutledge and Georgia Poet Laureate Ollie Reeves. Dark aquamarine boards with bright gilt stamped spine lettering, touch of scuffing/fraying at spine ends. Light toning to rear endpapers; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy in a very good- dust jacket. Although unfortunately without any indicative markings, this book was among a collection of Henry Bellamann (aka Heinrich Bellamann, 1882-1945) and Katherine Bellamann (1877-1956) material obtained from a family descendant. Novelist, poet, and music professor Henry Bellamann is best known for his 1940 novel KINGS ROW. Bellamann enjoyed teaching and/or administrative positions at South Carolina's Chicora College from 1907 to 1924 thereafter employed at Julliard, Curtis Institute of Music, and Vassar College. His papers and those of his wife Katherine Jones Bellamann, a noted poet and author in her own right, are held by the University of Mississippi J.D. Williams Library Special Collections.
