Editorial Capitán Swing Libros, S.L. Colección Entrelíneas. Título original: "Assata Shakur: An Autobiography (2001)". Traducción: Ethel Odriozola & Carmen Valle. Prefacio: Angela Y. Davis. Diseño Gráfico: Filo Estudio. Corrección ortotipográfica: Juan Marqués. Primera Edición en Capitán Swing: Abril de 2013. Madrid, 2013. Autobiografía. Literatura negra estadounidense. Activismo. Movimiento negro. Condition: New. Idioma/Language: Español. «Aspaldian ezagutu nuen Assata Shakur Habanan, Autobiografia bat lehenengoz argitaratu eta urte batzuetara. Ez zen prentsa amerikanoan marrazten zen munstroa, baizik Ameriketako Estatu Batuetan nagusi zen arrazismoaren aurka beste asko bezala altxatu zen emakume normal bat. Protesta politikoaren aurka Estatuak erabiltzen zuen errepresio gogorragatik, militantzia armatua aukeratu behar izan zuena, nahiz eta jakin konfrontazio armatuaren bidez ez zutela irabazteko ezelango aukerarik». Joseba Sarrionandia «Assata Shakur guztioi mintzo zaigu, eta, bereziki, espetxe-sare global gero eta handiagoan bahituta zaudetenei. Optimismoak gure hiztegi politikoan atzera egin duen honetan, opari ordainezinak ematen dizkigu: inspirazioa eta itxaropena». Buch. Condition: Neu.

Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First editions of her autobiography are scarce. This is the first softcover edition.Assata Olugbala Shakur (born JoAnne Deborah Byron; July 16, 1947, sometimes referred to by her married surname Chesimard) is a former member of the Black Liberation Army, who was convicted (under New Jersey's "aiding and abetting" statute) of the first-degree murder of State Trooper Werner Foerster during a shootout on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973. She was charged with the murder of a state trooper, though escaped prison and fled to Cuba, where she was granted political asylum. On November 2, 1979, she escaped from prison, and in 1984, she surfaced in Cuba, where she was granted political asylum. In 1987, she published Assata: An Autobiography, which was written in Cuba. Her autobiography has been cited in relation to critical legal studies and critical race theory. The book does not give a detailed account of her involvement in the BLA or the events on the New Jersey Turnpike, except to say that the jury "convicted a woman with her hands up!" It gives an account of her life beginning with her youth in the South and New York. Shakur challenges traditional styles of literary autobiography and offers a perspective on her life that is not easily accessible to the public. The book was published by Lawrence Hill & Company in the United States and Canada but the copyright is held by Zed Books Ltd. of London due to "Son of Sam" laws, which restrict who can receive profits from a book. In the six months preceding the publications of the book, Evelyn Williams, Shakur's aunt and attorney, made several trips to Cuba and served as a go-between with Hill.
