Atwell had apparently given away all his copies of the novel, and is thanking the recipient for sending one along as a gift. Atwell goes on 'I mentioned the three boys in my family. One of them, a Junior in college, said to me out of the blue the other day 'How long is that book you wrote about the family?' I said 'three hundred and some off pages'. He look alarmeed and said 'I don't think I could handle it'. But maybe someday he will, and he, too, will have you to thank.
