[from jacket flaps] This is a record of the Scottish Regiments - those raised in Scotland and those formed by Scotsmen throughout the Commonwealth and Empire. The fighting reputation of the Scottish, springing from the turbulent history of the Clans, has carried the national characteristics to the ends of the earth. The warlike histories of the Scottish and Empire-Scottish Regiments recorded here are accompanied by a large number of colour plates, remarkable for their precision in detail and for their inherent decorative quality. These illustrations are a most important part of the book. They will be invaluable to Theatrical costumiers, Film producers, artists, military tailors, makers of model soldiers, and many others, quite apart from the general reader. The story of the tartans and the kilt and the pipes, the regimental badges, uniforms and battle honours are all told with discrimination, without losing in the mass the inherent splendour of the subject. This is indeed a book to warm the hearts of Scotsmen at home, in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or wherever they may be, for the call to arms has always found them ready to defend their adopted country with the same efficiency and fervour that they have shewn for their native land. The Author has given us a rich store of accurate and fascinating detail in his beautiful illustrations and has woven together the histories of the Scottish fighting units like the lines in a tartan sett.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good--. Reprint. 347 Pages. Reprinted edition of 1968. This book is a detailed reference book on the uniforms worn by the British military as well as the uniforms worn throughout the British Empire during the 1742 to 1960 period with lots of uniform illustrations and descriptions. The book's dust jacket has some worn areas on all of its edges, corners, at the top and bottom of its spine, a repaired tear on the top edge of the front cover and some light soiling on the rear cover. The interior book has slight wearing on its corners and along its front cover's bottom edge. Outside of these items, there are no further visible detriments or visible extraneous markings, stickers or other distractions throughout the book and hence all of its printing and numerous illustrations are all in a very well-preserved and enjoyable condition and the book's bindings remain tight and therefore would be sound. If you order this terrific reference book on the uniforms worn by British and its empire's soldiers from us, we will carefully wrap it up in either foam or bubble wrap, then pad and box it and mail it right away to you with both insurance and tracking on it.
