English summary: On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the reopening of the Egyptian Museum of the University of Leipzig, Elke Blumenthal, its longtime director, tells the story of the museum's eventful history following its closure after the bombing raids of 1943, the years of the GDR, the time of the "Wende" and the period up to the present day. Going beyond the boundaries of the discipline, the history of the collection reflects key political events and developments as well as demonstrating the special significance of the museum as a lifeline and gateway to the world during the years of the East German regime. Based on her personal memories, Blumenthal's account expands upon existing works on the history of the museum, with the inclusion of numerous snapshots of everyday life, not to mention the diverse nuances of subjective experience. The work is completed by a range of formerly unpublished photographs, a detailed register of persons, bibliographical references, contemporary documents and Blumenthal's own personal memories of the fall of the Wall on November 9th. Der Text ist überarbeitet und erweitert, der Abbildungsteil gänzlich neu gestaltet worden. Obwohl der Aufsatz an einer für Leipziger Belange entlegenen Stelle publiziert ist, hat das lange übersehene Bildwerk, dem er sich widmet, seitdem einige Aktivitäten auf sich gezogen. 1995 wurde es vom Südwestflügel des Grassimuseums auf das geschützte Areal des wiederhergestellten Johannisfriedhofs zurückgeholt, auf dem es ursprünglich gestanden hatte, und erhielt im Winter eine hölzerne Schutzhütte. Kürzlich wurde es restauriert, um von seinem Stellplatz unter freiem Himmel in das Ägyptische Museum der Universität versetzt und im Ensemble der Grabdenkmale des Friedhofs durch eine Replik vertreten zu werden. [.] Mit dieser Wirkungsgeschichte ist aber die ägyptisierende Grab-säule nicht nur ein Denkmal für Friedrich August Wilhelm Spohn, der sich als erster an der Universität Leipzig mit Hieroglyphen beschäftigte, und für ihren Schöpfer Gustav Seyffarth, der zudem 1842 das erste ägyptische Original für die Universität kaufte und damit die ägyptische Sammlung begründet hat.
