A list of Publications of the Academy of Pacific Coast History for Volumes 1 and 2 is printed on the inside of the back cover. Pedro Fages (1734-1734) was a Spanish explorer, soldier, and the 2nd and 5th Governor of Alta California. Herbert Eugene Bolton (1870-1953) was an American historian whose specialization was Spanish-American history. He served as the department chair of UC Berkeley's History Department for twenty-two years and is also credited for helping to make the Bancroft Library a prominent institution and place of research.
