This exhibition was the first major retrospective of Lambdin's work in over 50 years and it featured over 70 paintings, drawings, and prints by Lambdin.George Cochran Lambdin (1830 - 1896) was an American painter, best known for his genre paintings of everyday life in the mid-19th century. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He began exhibiting his work at the Academy in 1848, and quickly gained a reputation for his realistic and sentimental paintings of domestic scenes. Lambdin's work often featured young women in idyllic settings, such as reading by a window or playing with children. He also painted scenes of everyday life, such as street scenes, market scenes, and interiors. During the American Civil War, Lambdin worked as a war artist, painting scenes of camp life and battle.
