"The Pardoner's Tale is presented here in the Middle English version as written by Geoffrey Chaucer ( c. 1340-1400). The [82] woodcuts { eac signed or initialled] should be taken as a translation of Chaucer's tale into visual narrative rather than as illustrations. The artist has chosen The Pardon'er Tale for its timeless manifestation of human foibles and weaknesses - Foreword." These woodcuts were originally created for an educational film. Bronislaw Bak, a Pole, survived a German concentration camp, emigrated to America, and became a master artist in painting, printmaking, stained glass, and more, with art education too.
