McLean's Assistant Director, Thora Hegstad Campbell (1915-2010), was also used to portray Martha Logan, appearing in New York television shows as Martha. Thus two actual food preparation experts (one brunette, one blond) became known as Swift & Company's single fictitious spokeswoman. Regardless of how or why, these two had their cooking expertise confirmed in the public's mind so they collaborated to produce top-selling cookbooks through the 1950s.
