Striking four-volume hardback set is bright and clean without wear or markings, in slipcases also clean save for a little dusting and some light white speckling to base of rear vol.2. Plain purple re-binding and slipcases appear to have been privately commissioned and executed by expert hands (albeit with slight "crinkling" on spine of Vol. 2), with bright gilt top block edges and just a whiff of binding adhesive (?) from each volume. Winston Churchill's 2,500-page biography of his eminent ancestor - John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough - complete in four illustrated volumes first published in 1933, 1934, 1936 and 1938. This identically-bound and slipcased set contains the 1939 revised edition (2nd printing) of volume 1 and the 1934 2nd printing of volume 2, with first prints of volumes 3-4, with index in each volume.
