Hardcover. Condition: NF. No Jacket. Colour Art, Photos, Diagrams, Technical Drawings, Cut-Aways Etc (illustrator). 1st. Many books relating to the de Havilland Mosquito aircraft of the RAF in WWII have been written, but few, if any, have matched the brilliant merging of text and illustration as that achieved in this significent addtion to aircraft literature the 1939-45 conflict. The Mosquito had many claims to fame. It was unusual with the airfraft constructed of wood, becoming, colloquially known as the "Wooden Wonder." It was extremely versitile, used in a number of operational roles with destinction in all. The "Mossie" was designed as an unarmed light bomber and when intoduced to operations was an immediate success, which led to the adaptation of the basic airframe to a the large variety ofcombat duties. These are concisely, but comprehensively, recorded in Sweetman's text. However, pride of place must got to Watanabe's excellent artistic contribution. This includes two four sheet colour fold-outs which illustrate most of the Mosquito marks, cutaways and a number of side view profiles. The coloured inllustrations are complemented by a numerous photographs, earlier DH trend-setting designs, technical diagrams, side and four views and cut-aways with numered components. All the illustrations and the complete volume are in excellent condition and this book is an essential in any WWII aircraft collection. First edition of 1981, 52 pages, illustrations throughout. Colour art hard covers NF, endpapers are light brown wood-grain, with original dealer label lower paste-down corner, internally NF.

Hardcover. Condition: VG+. Dust Jacket Condition: G+. Colour Art, B/w Photos, Drawings Few Diagrams etc (illustrator). First Thus. This book is one of a two set companion issue to the earlier published "The Caterpillars of the British Butterflies "The "Moths" edition bveing based on a previous work by Richard South, "The Moths of the British Isles", its revision" being prepared by Stokoe and Stovin. However, it was the much larger number of month varieties in Britain, over butterflies that made a two volume set necessary and this single copy is the first of the pair. The front flap note on the DJ says all the more important families of British moth caterpillers are described in the book, which runs to more tha 400 pages, containing a hugh number of entries on different caterpiller varients, as well the eggs, chrysalids and food plants. Graphically, enhancing the book's informative text material are excellent colour art plates showing caterpillers at different stages. There are 90 of the colour plates, including the frontis. Each plate has multiple images ranging from two or three specimens up to 10. The majority of plates have b/w images on the reverse face showing chrysalids or eggs, with larger numbers of examples. A title page note credits the book with 702 illustrations, 251 in full colour, drawn by J C Dollman. Series 1 first edition of 1948, 408 pages, illustrated throughout. Blue hard covers with indent pattern are VG+, with gilt front and spine titles and rounded corners. Small former owner name top corner FFEP, text block otherwise excellent throughout.
