DJ is heavily worn and soiled with large tear and creasing along the front top edge. Front flap contains a blue piece of tape which was used to cover the last paragraph explaining the industries and the Recovery Act. Front end page has a tipped in letter from The Chemical Foundation of New York. Blue cloth boards are clean though gilt on spine has partially worn away. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight, no signatures or personal bookplates present, no library markings. Pages are tone due to age and some minor foxing is present.

Previous owner's note on front endpaper, marginal tear on last pate. 286 pages, stated first edition, brown cloth boards. Hoover, 1874-1964, was born in Iowa and started out as an engineer and businessman. He earned an international reputation during World War I as Chairman of the American Relief Committee. He served as Secretary of Commerce from 1921-1928 and was elected U.S. President in 1928. Faced with the stock market crash and the Great Depression, he was reluctant to use Federal power for economic relief and was defeated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1932.
