El mismo Sigmund Freud no tardará en intervenir, al inicio, a favor de su discípulo favorito; la ruptura entre la judía y el psiquiatra sobrevendrá dolorosamente. Ańos después, tras estudiar medicina en Zurich, Sabina Spielrein se convertirá también en discípula de Freud y se ganará las preferencias del patriarca, ejercerá el psicoanálisis: uno de sus pacientes más notables será el propio Jean Piaget. En su investigación, no pasará mucho tiempo antes de encontrarse con Alejandra Spielrein, psicoanalista y escritora, descendiente directa de aquella primera paciente de Carl Jung.
