An attractive personalised bookplate with the B.J.F. monogram and a stylised tree with pine cones and a 'Napoleonic' bee beneath. The pine cones refer to his house 'Seven Pines' at Virginia Water. Presentation copy: 'For Dame Edith E[vans]. That incomparable she who alone is fit to be the first queen from Margaret Irwin'. The first queen refers to Mary, Philip II's wife otherwise known as 'Bloody Mary'. Bryan Forbes wrote about Dame Edith Evans and inherited most of her books.
