Some minor bumping to extremities of dust jacket, small stain to front cover, chip to spine head. Fine overall. One of the supreme treasures of photography is here assembled for the first time in a book. This early Victorian album is the work of two pioneer Scottish photographers, who in the year 1848, scarcely a decade after the birth of the camera, selected what they considered to be their finest pictures (258 of the 1500 their collaboration had already produced) for presentation to the British Royal Academy. These photographs subsequently disappeared - were lost for more than a century - and after their rediscovery in 1967, commanded the highest price ever paid until that time for a collection.
