The first appearance of this story that would later appear in the collection, The Unkind Word And Other Stories, NY: Harper & Brothers, 1870. Housed in protective mylar report cover.

M. C.' The page also carries annotations in another hand in light pencil.

Ink name on ffe in a neat but florid hand: "Mary F [?] Kirkpatrick March 22nd 1878 Toronto". Both the US & Canadian editions are uncommon, the latter comparatively scarce (16 copies in WorldCat as opposed to some 60 of the US). A tight clean copy, cloth a trifle rubbed, with backstrip slightly toned.
