FAscinating account of the Pacific sandalwood trade describes the first contact between Europeans and the Melanesians of New Caledonia, the New Hebrides and the Loyalty Islands. Examines relationships between the two ethnic groups and also between European traders and missionaries, between traders, and between tribes. A fine analysis of the confrontation of two cultures, approached from the standpoint of Melanesian history rather than as an extension of European history into the Pacific islands. Size: 8vo.
