Wraps. Condition: Very good. [2], 5, [1] pages. Illustrations. References. This is a preprint of a paper presented at the 17th Target Fabrication Specialist Meeting, San Diego, California on October 1-5, 2006 and to be published in Fusion Science and Technology. This is part of General Atomics Project 30272. General Atomics is an American energy and defense corporation headquartered in San Diego, California, specializing in research and technology development. This includes physics research in support of nuclear fission and nuclear fusion energy. The company also provides research and manufacturing services for remotely operated surveillance aircraft, including the Predator drones; airborne sensors; and advanced electric, electronic, wireless, and laser technologies. The experimenters built a precision radiography system that measures shells for all current ablator materials to an accuracy of 1:10 4 in optical depth fluctuation and a spatial resolution of 120 m. The data obtained by the precision radiography system for undoped shells was compared with the data taken using the well-known surface measurement technique Spheremapper. Since both techniques yielded the same power spectrum for the same shell, the results of the precision radiography system were verified. When this technique is compared to the Be:Cu NIF shell, there is no significant internal layer fluctuation. To account for the growing measurement demand, a new x-ray system to accommodate measurements in 1 working day was designed. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus [Conference Preprint].

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. G. K. Evens (Illustratins), Drake Brookshaw (Dustwrapper design) (illustrator). Second Edition. Second edition, published in September, 1934. The book was first published in December, 1932. Illustrated with black & white plates by the author and line drawings by his son G. K. Evens throughout the book. Dustwrapper attractively designed by Drake Brookshaw. ***Very good in dark-green cloth-covered boards with black titles and borders to the spine and front board. The boards are beautifully clean and unmarked, having been protected by the dustwrapper. Head and tail of spine and edges of boards remain uncreased. Corners sharp. No fading. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Heavy foxing to the page block edges. Internally also very good, with no inscriptions. There is some foxing to the first and last few pages, and sporadic foxing spots within the book. No creases or tears. Printed on nice quality thick paper. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 3/6 net. Unusually, the fragile dustwrapper is virtually complete, without any significant loss - just some rubbing and creasing at the extremities commensurate with age and handling, mainly at the top and tail of the spine. There is also a small chip at the top edge of the spine. The back panel is slightly marked (being a white background) and lists the other three Romany books published by the Epworth Press. ***182 pages. 190mm x 130mm. ***'"A Romany in the country" in which you are re-introduced to: Raq - My Spaniel, John Fell - Gamekeeper, Jerry - Poacher, Alan and Joe - Farmers, Ned - Village Postman, John Rubb - Angler. In publishing this series of Nature Talks I have purposely omitted much of the village gossip which is to be found in my two previous books, and in consequence, one or two village characters are omitted. This has been done that more space might be devoted to Nature lore and fact. G.B.E. August, 1932.' (Quote taken from the Author''s note at the beginning of the book) ***'The Rev. George Bramwell Evens (15 Feb 1884 - 20 Nov 1943) was, under the pseudonym "Romany" (and sometimes "The Tramp"), a British radio broadcaster and writer on countryside and natural history matters - quite possibly the first to broadcast on such issues. He was also a Minister of the Methodist Church. He is most famous for his Out with the Romany radio programmes (later Out with Romany), which commenced in 1933 on the BBC's Children's Hour, describing travels in his vardo (Romany wagon), with Comma the horse, his English Cocker Spaniel Raq, and his young friends Muriel and Doris. Although the programmes were all pre-scripted and performed entirely in the studio, the impression given was of Romany and his friends going for a walk in the countryside and spontaneously discussing the plants and animals they came across. The Romany Society, originally formed in 1943, disbanded in 1965, and re-founded in 1996, celebrates his life and work, with regular newsletters and an annual magazine. Its patron is Terry Waite. The BBC radio programmes were all broadcast live, and only one recording survives - dated October 1943, just a month before his death. (Wiki) ***A second edition, published in 1934, just two years after the first edition, complete in its original pre-war dustwrapper. Of interest to collectors of the nature writings of G. Bramwell Evens, the "Romany" of the B.B.C. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
