First published in 1864, this is a one volume edition in a handsome full leather school prize binding. 18.5 x 24.5 cm, printed in double columns, lxi, [2], 1002 [2] pages, portrait frontispiece. Some creasing and chipping to title pages and frontispiece, foxing to a few pages first and last but otherwise very sound and clean internally. Binding with crest of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Grammar school on front board, school prize label on pastedown, not much wear but joints neatly reinforced with paper.

No date of publication, though circa 1860s (Cassell Petter & Galpin existed in this configuration from 1858 to 1878). Complete set in three volumes, including comedies, histories, and tragedies. Burgundy dyed leather over spines and corners, with buckram burgundy cloth over boards. Beveled edges. Gilt stamped lettering on spine and top cover. Raised spine bands create six compartments on each spine. Leather is rubbed and scuffed, with a little loss of some lettering on spine. Light wear at corners and spine ends. There is a little light scattered foxing, mostly seen on first and last few leaves, and more so on tissue guards than the actual leaves. All three volumes remains tight, and are otherwise very clean and intact. Due to size and weight additional charges will apply for Priority and/or International shipping.

Volume I cracked to upper hinge, front free endpaper detached but present, Volume VII lacking front free endpaper, all volumes shaken, Vol I upper board bowed, else internally good clean tight sound, no bookplate, inscriptions or ownership marks of any kind, remarkably free from foxing or browning. Bound in bright gilt embossed, lettered, ruled and lustrated pictorial red cloth, featuring elaborate gilt and black illustration including portrait, fleursdelys, flora, stars, scrolled leaves, and many ruled compartments. Great shelf presence though sloped, with 2 gilt title and volumedivision labels, and elaborate black illustration. A great Edition of the more uncommon 7 volume set with wonderful illustrations, at reduced price due to shaken boards, all edges very bright gilt.
