Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. First Edition. First edition, 1968. Very good in very good dust jacket. A festscrift of essays in honor of Hook's 65th birthday. With an extensive bilbiography of Hook's work by John Dennis Crowley. All but one of the 23 essays included from philosophers, and writers in broad fields of sociology, politics, law, and social affairs are published her for the first time. Hook was an American philosopher of the pragmatist school known for his contributions to the philosophy of history, the philosophy of education, political theory, and ethics. He was a controversial figure because he attacked many sacred cows of contemporary life; but he had had few rivals in his ability to engage in continuing dialogue. (From the flap) "Hook speaks to the actual conditions of contemporary life; and he has persistently attempted to apply pragmatic intelligence to concrete issues of practical concern".
