Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Signal: Hitler's Wartime Picture Magazine Edited by S.L. Mayer Published by Prentice-Hall Inc., USA., Seventh Impression 1978. Hard covers with illustrated dust jacket, size 30.5 x 23 cms., approx. 200 pages mono and colour reproductions throughout the book. Signal was the most widely circulated magazine in Europe during the Second World War. Published under the auspicies of the Wehrmacht and supervised by Goebbel's Ministry of Propaganda, Signal was distributed in 20 languages throughout occupied Europe between 1940 and 1945. Its circulation reached a high point of three million in 1943, most of it outside Germany. Its design and format have been copied by many European publications since the war, as its treatment of action photographs and its collection of colour on the war and the home front in the Third Reich are incomparable. An historical introduction leads on to the presentation of some of the best examples of Signal published during the war. The book is in very good condition. A01.1163.

Hardcover. Condition: New. vii, 449 pages : illustrations (some colour), maps, portraits ; 26 cm. The study of the Earth's origin, its composition, the processes that changed and shaped it over time and the fossils preserved in rocks, have occupied enquiring minds from ancient times. The contributions in this volume trace the history of ideas and the research of scholars in a wide range of geological disciplines that have paved the way to our present-day understanding and knowledge of the physical nature of our planet and the diversity of life that inhabited it. To mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the International Commission on the History of Geology, the book features contributions that give insights into its establishment and progress. In other sections authors reflect on the value of studying the history of the geosciences and provide accounts of early investigations in fields as diverse as tectonics, volcanology, geomorphology, vertebrate palaeontology and petroleum geology. Other papers discuss the establishment of geological surveys, the contribution of women to geology and biographical sketches of noted scholars in various fields of geoscience.
