Tissue guards on plates/engraving. Original dark blue cloth shows light wear and bumped corners. Inked initials on front paste down. Just a little light foxing and age toning. Volume remains tight and generally clean.

Blindstamped cloth. Condition: Very Good. 8vo. xxiv, 416 pp. With 40 hand-colored illustrations and steel engraved frontis. The lovely animal plates are similar to those found in Jardine. Frontis has foxing. Otherwise, but for occasional light and trivial soiling, a clean and tight copy. Some fading of gilt decoration on spine. Repair along front gutter. Darkening along both gutters. Wear along spine tips.

Decorated Red Cloth. Condition: Poor. Later Edition. (Not dated but c1845), later edition. Memoir of Francis Willoughby: v, pp17-163; The Natural History of the Nectarinidae or Sun-Birds, pp164-277, 30 hand-coloured plates with tissue guards, hand-coloured additional title page and engraved black & white frontispiece portrait of Willoughby, other black & white illustrations in text, pages and plates appear to be clean apart from very light foxing to portrait and title page and a small stain to p205/206, owners stamp to front free endpaper, red cloth with blind-stamped decorative border, lacks spine, binding very loose with some loose pages/plates (p175-178, 2 plates), held together with white tape. Size: 7 x 4.25 Inches. Birds.

Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. 229 pages, plus colored first title page, 30 numbered plates bound at rear of volume, of which 28 are colored, and two black and white un-numbered plates. Engraved frontispiece of Latreille. Tissue guards on plates/engraving. Later brown cloth binding. A few very light spots of foxing and a few leaves a little darkened on edges. Previous sellers penciled notes on blank front free end leaf. Volume remains tight and otherwise very clean.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Blue boards and darkened blue spine, blocked in black and lettered in gilt, corners and spine's edges slightly rubbed. Some foxing on reverse of black and white frontis and a a little on coloured half-title; remaining contents clean and unmarked. Pp 246 + (2). 34 numbered coloured plates; 37 plates in total. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Quarter-bound, hardback book, with each corner, bound in beautiful brown leather bound, gilt edged, tooled spine and gilt titles on the spine. Marbled paper sides, along with marbled inside, front and back boards and first and last pages, marbled edged papers. This stunning book has been beautifully bound and is in really good condition, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Published in 1861, tissue guard paper for title page still intact. Inside board has named label with crest. 416 pages all intact and nice tight binding. The book also has a nice blue coloured, cotton, page marker. All pages, text and fabulous illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. The odd and occasional foxing mark, hardly noticeable. A truly lovely book that would adorn any stylish library.

Uniform matching hard back binding in publisher's original brick red cloth covers, gilt title, author lettering and volume numbering to the spines, small gilt vignette to the upper panels, top edges gilt. 8vo. 7'' x 5''. The tissue guarded colour plate collation is as follows: Volume I has 34 colour plates plus monochrome frontispiece and monochrome vignette; Volume II has 29 colour plates including colour vignette plus monochrome frontispiece; Volume III has 35 colour plates including colour vignette plus monochrome frontispiece; Volume IV has 32 colour plates including colour vignette plus monochrome frontispiece. This makes 130 colour plates in total [some of which are eggs] however, this arrangement over the four volumes does not exactly match those plates as listed with plate 18 of volume IV missing. We have seen various sets over the years with anything from 128 up to 132 colour plates. Fraying of the cloth across the tops of the spines, volume I has had a repair to the front hinge at some point in time leaving a ragged edge to the front gutter, without any foxing or toning to the paper or the plates. Wood-engraved frontispiece, additional title-page and illustrations Binding with the slightest wear at corners, upper hinge partly cracked, but a very nice copy; ownership inscription on front free end-paper Contemporary red panelled morocco gilt, spine in compartments with raised bands, elaborately decorated and lettered in gilt, all edges and inner dentelles gilt. With two delightful and accomplished fore-edge paintings, one showing a cricket match, the other a landscape with two men shooting wildfowl in the foreground, one from the land and one from water.

Full Calf. Condition: Very Good. Lovely full-calf binding, with gilt centerpiece figure of a bird, a subtle blindstamped perimeter band, animal figures in gilt placed in spine compartments. The calf itself has a pleasing and warm speckling that sets it apart. 8vo. 19 by 12.5 cm. xxiv, 416 pp. Many engraved plates. Occasional light foxing, but mostly clean. Slight, even warping of the boards, but other than light wear, the binding has an uncommon freshness to it.

Condition: Very Good. Half ruled green morocco over marbled paper boards. Gilt title to brown calf spine label. Gilt decoration to spine. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate removed from front pastedown; foxing to first and last pages, chip to head of spine. Small tear to lower margin of pages 107-114. 30 nicely hand colored plates.
