Dean Dewitt Lewis was a prominent surgeon at Johns Hopkins, serving as Professor of Surgery from 1925-1939 and also served as president of the American Medical Association from 1933-1934. He made significant contributions to surgical literature and played a role in fostering the beginnings of alumni associations at Johns Hopkins. From the library Dr. Owen Hannaway. Hannaway was director of the Center for the History and Philosophy of Science at Johns Hopkins University. He authored numerous books and served as an editor of academic magazines in the history of science.
