Colour and black & white illustrated throughout, self-printed wrappers, colour cover art on front cover, black & white on back, Fine copy. A wonderful archive of original artwork by the beloved California artist, muralist, and book illustrator. Her specialty was the humanized animal, typically neatly dressed, and with joyful expressions, and this exuberance could be seen in her illustrations for Little Black Sambo, her edition of Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses, and of course the Bumper Book which became one of the great collections of verse and illustration for children. The original illustrations included here encompass a wonderful rendering of mice & rabbits beautifully dressed for an invitation that was to be sent out for her exhibition of original art at Basildon Gallery in London at the end of World War II. In addition, there is a wonderful design possibly for endpapers on a book of mice, frogs, and rabbits chasing each other across a meadow; an image of fall leaves & another of flowers; two wonderful Christmas card designs with Santa Claus, another original Christmas greeting with personal message, image, and signed by her. Also included are original pen & ink story board panels, a card w/ pencil and hand-coloured images on both sides of young children, an original New Year's Day greeting card showing the new year peeing in the snow for 1951; as well as a charmingly illustrated New Year's poem and greeting signed "Forgive the shaky business -- I'm a bit blotto -- but I am very sane -- Eulalie, 1947!" Eulalie (1895-1999) had returned to England from 1937 to 1953, staying with her sister and her daughter through World War II, and continuing to illustrate children's books, greeting cards, and murals. She returned to Los Angeles in the 1950s, where she was well known for having painted murals for Ann Harding, Harold Lloyd, and Charlie Chaplin, and beloved for her murals in the old Santa Monica Library Boys and Girls Room. She continued signing books, and delighting her fans until her death at 102. See: Barton, Eulalie Banks, Children's Book Illustrator; Hinz, Learning about Eulalie; Tucker, Eulalie Banks (1999).
