About this Item: Simon & Schuster, New York, 1950. Soft Cover. Condition: Good +. "With this small volume, the traveler strikes back." A facetious look at resort and vacation spot brochures and come-ons, such as "Qualified physician in residence at the hotel (photo of a vet in a stable examining a horse), "Our modern laundry permits same-day service for overnight guests" (photo of Indian woman beating laundry with a stick in a filthy river), "The unique location of the hotel guarantees shade from the sun at all hours (a cave dwelling), "Central dining room is handy to all the cottages" (a rock climber with a skinny toe hold on a sheer surface), "Alert, efficient guides will greet you on arrival" (a sleeping drunk on a park bench).you get the drift. (On my own first trip across country back in the days of Burma Shave signs, we kids and Mom urged Dad to stop at a "ranch" where live rattlesnakes, herds of buffalo and other exotic (to hillbilly children) animals were broadcast on billboards for at least 120 miles. We paid our admission to a nasty-tempered old man, my brother prodded the pathetic snake in its jar and we still couldn't determine whether it was dead or alive, the few scraggly buffalo cows were penned up in a small cage, etc. We were wary after that, but fully vindicated on beholding the Grand Canyon). 95 pages, excellent photos by Krainin taken all over the world with Dave Barry type captions by travel writer Sutton. Covers are lightly foxed and show some handling wear, top spine end is ragged, text is starting to age-darken but is clean and unmarked. Size: 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. Seller Inventory # HU01211
