Hardcover, 374 pages in near fine condition with very good dustjacket, light rubbing to jacket. 1st edition, later printing. It's the least known, most misunderstood secret agency of the US. Few know the remarkable story of its origin in 1865- and its original mission- to protect our money. It was not until 1906, 5 years after President McKinley's assassination, that Congress authorized the use of public funds to protect the President. It wasn't till after 1951 after 2 would-be assassins burst into Blair House and fought a blazing gun battle with agents, that Congress permenently authorized and funded the Secret Service to protect the President. After 9/11 the complications of their service has increased.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
