About this Item: Frankfurt am Main - Wien - Zürich, Büchergilde Gutenberg, 2009. Condition: Wie neu. The letter is dated Thurs July 3rd. Due to the content of the letter, the letter is from 1941 as it mentions her pregnancy of her first child who was born in 1942. Sheilah Graham was born on September 15, 1904 in Leeds, England as Lily Shiel. She was an actress and writer, known for Sheilah Graham in Hollywood (1951), Gregory Peck: A Living Biography (1977) and Impact (1949). She was married to Stanley Wojtkiewicz, Trevor Westbrook and John Graham Gillam. She died on November 17, 1988 in Palm Beach, Florida, USA.Lived with F. Scott Fitzgerald 1936-1940 (his death) Mother, with Trevor Westbrook, of Robert T. Westbrook. Longtime Hollywood gossip columnist. She was the inspiration for the heroine, Kathleen, in F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished novel, "The Last Tycoon". To show her love, she declined his offer to add a codicil to his will leaving her the royalties from "The Last Tycoon". Her daughter was named Wendy Westbrook Fairey. Wendy was born during Graham's marriage to Trevor Westbrook and given his name, but she was in fact the daughter of British Philosopher A.J. Ayer. Wendy was not told of her true parentage until she was an adult. I have translated the letter as follows- Trevor Darling, I received your cable this morning that you had resigned from ---------, hope things have not being too irritating for you. I am longing to know the details and what your future plans are. I hope you find something more to your liking and ------- less opposition than you had at -------. Don t worry I ve had to keep a good man down, you are a good man. I received some sweet words from your mother for the baby and I enclose a letter for her which do not lose or fail to give her. I ll be back in New York in the middle of August and then it won t be long before the baby comes. The time has gone rather quickly and been much better than I expected. The main trouble now is that I don t sleep very well turning from side to side is quite a problem, I can t sleep well on my back. But it will soon be over and hope it s a boy, but lots of females so called experts think it will be a girl so I am keeping an open mind, I don t really care what I get as long as she or he is healthy. -------- called me on the phone a couple of weeks ago and said he d was just keeping an eye on me, asked how I was and if I did need anything to let him know which was nice of him. I told him I was all right until the baby came, then if I required help I d let him know. I enclose a picture of myself sitting by a pool at the back of this hotel. The little bay belongs to a woman here. It s not a very good picture but might give you an idea of the new figure. 6L maybe it might it because it s ------- far away or close to. I m well pregnant. Heaven s it will be nice to play tennis again and nice still to see you and have fun together. All my love Sheilah. The letter is in good condition with a centre crease. Small inscription in pencil to the letter top that can be removed. Size is 170mm x 140mm More images can be taken upon request. Ref 6331 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author.
