Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. First Thus. Text in Old French and English. On the page facing the half title page-" The Large Paper Edition of the volume, of 50 copies all of which are numbered and signed, was printed on October, 1887 This is No.16" -dated and signed in contemporary signature. Half-bound in red morocco over crimson marbled boards ruled in gilt. Spine has five raise bands and six compartments with floral design and title exquisitely tooled in gilt. Top edges gilt. Wide margins. Several dots of foxing on the bottom edges. Endpapers in pale pink. "Bayntun Binder Bath", stamp signed, on verso of ffe. Here also, in pencil, a notation - " A particularly fine copy.". The top corner of back cover is lightly worn. There is a.25" scratch on the leather on the front cover near top edge. There are tan transfer lines on the paste-downs where they lay upon the leather. Light foxing on verso of ffe ,the five blank pages that follow, and again on verso of the back free endpaper and the five preceding pages. The bottom corners of five leaves starting at p.243 through the back free endpaper are creased and lightly discolored. The pages are otherwise clean, crisp and unmarked with no tears or signs of damp. Binding is square and tight. 245pp. 5" x 8". Printed at the Chishwick Press: Whittingham & Co.,Tooks Court, Chancery Lane. Translated by British poet F.W. Bourdillon. A beautiful book ,in fine binding by Bayntun Binders, with the bookplate of D.G. Bridson, British poet, radio producer for the BBC and discerning collector of fine limited editions, on the front paste-down. Please see all images.
