Red cloth-covered boards with gilt decorations and text on spine; blind embossed covers. Spine label sunned and gilt faded, ends rubbed. Covers worn with cloth rubbed through at places on edges. Corners worn and rubbed, board corners exposed. Previous owner's inscription on verso of first page. Very mild foxing to prelim pages, otherwise internally clean, bright and tight. 8vo. Pen portraits of the likes of the mid-19th century dress-maker, medical student, parish beadle, teetotaller, midshipman, common informer, pew-opener, chimney-sweep, stock-broker, maid etc.
