Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Aperture; New York, New York, 1977, assumed first edition. 11-5/8" x 9-3/4", 142 numbered pages. A very attractive fine quality book with numerous images--virtually every page from 26 to 116 has a single image; all are black-and-white and each has a brief 3-10 word description of what the image shows plus location and year; many are of child laborers and tenement situations. There are many powerful and, even now, disturbing photos of American society. They are followed by a 19-page essay analyzing Hine's impact on America. The book is bound in one-piece black paper-covered boards and is free of edge dings and corner bumps; head and heel of spine are also not bumped, with all edges virtually free of wear; both boards are clean as is the spine. There is no fading. Except for original owner's name/date inked on the top of the reverse side of the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. The corner-clipped jacket is of NF quality--it has no tears, chips or fading; all it has is extremely light general shelf wear. What it also has is masking tape on the reverse side, along both top and bottom edges, at the spine and both front and rear folds. The tape has caused slight discoloration to the end pages but not to the binding and only slight darkening of the jacket's edges, most noticeable on the rear panel of the jacket.
