About this Item: Jules Claye, Paris, 1866. First Edition. Elephant folio. Notes and descriptions by Philippe Burty. Text in French except for a one page explanatory note from the artist in English. Title page printed in black and red ink. 41 pages + [blank] + [1], with 5 etchings including title page vignette. All first state, except for the title page, dated 1866, which is second state. Does not include accompanying 25 loose leaf plates. 250 copies of the original catalogue portion of Etudes a L'eau-Forte were printed in Paris. However, only 180 sets of the accompanying loose plates were completed before some of the plates began to fail. The result was the separate publication of some 70 or fewer catalogue-only copies, this copy in a green cloth binding with gilt lettering and rules. Title on front cover reads, "Oeuvre de M. Francis Seymour Haden, Paris, M.D.CCCLXV". Aside from the title-page frontispiece, etchings included in the catalogue are as follows: Kidwelly Castle, The Holly Field, Little Calais Pier, Hic Terminus Haeret. Tissue guards still in place.
