Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First edition. Hardback. 1st Edn. SIGNED BY JAMES MORTON. Few prisoners have served nearly all of a 20yr. sentence with no remission. 'Mad' Frankie Fraser did just that. Acquitted in 1965 of the murder of Dickie Hart during a fight in a London club he was sentenced to 5yrs. imprisonment for his part in the affray that night. Almost immediately he received 10yrs. to run consecutively as the 'Dentist' in the so-called Richardson 'Torture' trial. In 1970 he was sentenced to a further 5yrs. for leading the Parkhurst Prison riot. He was no newcomer to prison. He had already served 7yrs. for his part in the slashing of gang-leader Jack Spot in 1966 and had spent time in both Cane Hill Mental Hospital and Broadmoor from where he acquired his nickname. Now Fraser looks back on his career in which he has served over 40yrs. in prisons and mental institutions. As a young boy he came into contact with the Sabini brothers, the race course gang of the 1930s. During a term in prison he met Billy Hill, the self-styled Boss of the Underworld, whose minder he became, working for him for nearly 20yrs. For half a century, Frankie Fraser was a key figure in Britain's Underworld. Now he recounts his involvement in killings and contracts, robberies and escapes; he recalls the grasses and the revenge, the Great Train Robbery, and London's Gangland, a world which included the Krays, the Richardsons, the escape of Alfie Hinds, and Hill's right hand man Albert Dimes as well as the lawyers, journalists, police and politicians who helped or hindered. Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First edition. Hardback, 1st edn. SIGNED BY JAMES MORTON. From Soho to Southwark, Mayfair to Maida Vale and Clapton to Clapham, Frankie Fraser shows us where he and his friends fought, robbed and sometimes killed. In this survey of the city's sins, Frank recalls crimes - both notorious and previously unheard of - in the London of Frank's childhood and of today. He takes the reader into the clubs and pubs where thousands of pounds changed hands nightly in crooked card games, into the brothels where the girls worked for hundreds of pounds and on to the streets where they charged only shillings. He tells us of their life in poverty between the wars, where the cuttings and the beatings took place, how the robberies were planned, how friends were crossed and double-crossed and how they lived and died at the hands of others - or the hangman. Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First edition. Hardback. 1st Edn. SIGNED BY JAMES MORTON. Mad Frankie Fraser has become a household name, known to millions as one of London's most notorious gangsters. His shocking stories of his life of crime have become the stuff of legend, but in this book he delves into areas he has never chosen, or never dared, to talk about before. Taking the form of a diary, the book chronicles Frank's memories from various days of the year, recalling incidents from throughout his eventful life and criminal career in a way that is both revealing and compulsive. While this book gives Frank the chance to respond to statements made in other books written by his contemporaries, the main focus is on stories which are previously unpublished: stories about his family and the underworld; being brought up in the midst of gangland; prison escapes; unsolved murders; police corruption; bribery; extortion; wrongful convictions and even sex in prison. Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First edition. Hardcover. 1st Edn. SIGNED BY JAMES MORTON. Frankie Fraser takes the reader on a tour of the criminal hotspots on the British Isles, from the Isle of Wight to Glasgow. This is Britain as seen from the underworld; the sites of murders, the stories of killings, frauds, jewel thefts and treachery; the memories of gangsters long - and recently - dead. Following 'Mad Frank's London', he casts his net wider, to look at crime sites the length and breadth of the UK. From Glasgow and the Bible John killer, through Newcastle and the Sibbett murder, Manchester and the double murderer Walter Rowland, and on to the Isle of Wight, Frank covers Britain as he takes the reader on a tour of prisons that he spent time in - and those he met inside them. And as crime is no respecter of borders, Frank also visits Dublin. All the while Frank details crimes that he personally knew about; famous crimes that were part of the stories that set Frank on his way; and crimes as yet unsolved, that Frank can shed his own light upon, based on his lifelong experience of crime. From the tragic: the 12yr. old boy sent to Broadmoor for setting fire to a haystack and staying there another 75yrs., to the horrific: a head in Frank's own niece's fridge - a book representing a catalogue of crime committed around the country. Illus., Bibliog. and Index. 268pp. 8vo. h/back. With tipped-in label SIGNED BY JAMES MORTON. As New in dw.
