Zeit wäre es ja, dass die Leute das Unrecht begriffen, das ihm angethan worden ist, und erkennten, wie auf den von ihm gewiesenen Wegen reichlicher Gewinn zu finden ist. Nahezu hundert Jahre hat der Marsch durch die Wüste der "wissenschaftlichen" Psychologie und der "wissenschaftlichen" Schädellehre gedauert, während Galls fruchtbares Gefild verschmäht wurde. Jetzt hat es den Anschein, als ob die Entwickelung der Erkenntniss da und dort zu Ansichten führte, auf die auch Galls Lehre führt. Insbesondere scheint die Gehirnanatomie die Bahn zu brechen. Die meisten Aufsätze in Lehr-büchern und in Nachschlagewerken gehen offenbar auf Fossati zurück, so der Theiles in der Encyklopädie von Ersch u. Gruber (1851) und der Renaudins in der Bio-graphie universelle (1856). Renaudin nennt den Schüler Galls Fossati seinen Biographen und bezieht sich auf einen Artikel im "Dictionnaire de la conversation"; ich habe aber diesen nicht erlangen können. Wurzbach (Biograph. Lexikon des Kaiserthums Oesterreich, IV, 1858) verweist auf eine Arbeit Fossatis*) in Nouvelle Biographie générale, publiée sous la direction de M. le Dr. Hoefer, XIV, Paris 1833; auch sie ist mir nicht zugänglich. Im Uebrigen liegen einzelne Angaben Galls in seinen Werken vor, einzelne Angaben in den Werken der Zeitgenossen, einzelne Briefe Galls. Wie ich früher (III. S. 243) erwähnt habe, ist eine größere Correspondenz Galls in die Hände des Prof. Rollett in Graz gelangt.
