Seller: S. Howlett-West Books (Member ABAA), Modesto, CA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good-. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Reprint. This book is in Very Good- condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some beginning fading / toning to the book covers. The text pages are clean, but noticeably toned due to the acid content of the paper. The dust jacket has several small edge nicks and tears. The dust jacket cover features Spencer Tracy in a still from the movie of the same name. This is a movie tie-in / fictionalization of the movie and of the German novel by Anna Seghers. "The year is 1936. Seven prisoners escape from the fictitious Westhofen concentration camp near Worms, Germany near the Rhine. They represent a cross-section of German society: a writer, a circus performer, a schoolmaster, a farmer, a Jewish grocery clerk, and two prisoners who are apparently political activists. One is George Heisler (Spencer Tracy) and the other his mentor Wallau (Ray Collins) , the leader of the group.".

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. This is a US new edition hardcover of this title published by Crown Publishers in 1949. The photos show the condition better than I can describe but overall I believe it to be in Very Good condition for its age. The jacket is price clipped and nibbled along the top and bottom of the spine. It's nice and bright but the rear jacket flap is only loosely attached to the rest of the cover. he book has a straight spine, with overall sharp corners and firm spine ends. The lettering on the boards and spine is intact but the boards are sunned. The copyright page states the year of publication as 1949, and the title page confirms the book to be a new edition with 400 illustrations. The text block is tight and the pages are clean with light toning to the page edges.
