Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Good. Book Blurb for Chagall by Emily Genauer: In Chagall, Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic Emily Genauer presents an intimate and richly illustrated portrait of one of the 20th century?s most beloved and visionary artists. With a keen critical eye and deep appreciation for Marc Chagall?s dreamlike imagery, Genauer traces the arc of his remarkable life?from his humble beginnings in a Russian shtetl to his rise as a pioneering force in modern art. Blending biography, art history, and insightful analysis, Genauer explores how Chagall?s deeply personal style?steeped in folklore, mysticism, and vivid emotion?transformed the language of painting. This compelling narrative delves into the symbolism behind his flying lovers, floating fiddlers, and radiant stained glass, revealing a man whose work was as poetic as it was political. Chagall is more than a monograph?it is a lyrical celebration of imagination, resilience, and the enduring power of art to transcend borders and speak to the soul. Nice little pocket book with lots of images. Its in German, but contains lots of images, some of which are fold out. Probably about 60 pages, it has what appear to be 45 Tafel or images. slight tear to back dustcover removing about an inch chunk, but nothin serious, in otherwise good condition for 1955. Includes what appears to be a recipt for something dated 26 July 1996, maybe for the book? Not a very interesting recipt.
