Nella primavera del 1799, il mantovano Giuseppe Acerbi effettua un viaggio di esplorazione che parte da Kemi in Finlandia e arriva a Nord Kapp, lungo il tragitto che attualmente delimita il confine tra Svezia e Finlandia. Raggiunge Oulu nell'attuale Golfo di Botnia al nord della Finlandia, con un amico italiano, il bresciano Bernardo Bellotti, e qui si unisce a specialisti svedesi di botanica e meteorologia quali Skjoldebrand e Johan Julin. Le ricchezze dell'esplorazione di Acerbi sono le osservazioni e la documentazione che raccoglie sul popolo Lappone, i loro costumi, vita sociale (riferisce per primo la parola finlandese sauna) e il rapporto con il territorio e la natura. nel 1799! Acerbi mette in pratica la sua preparazione poliedrica così da osservare, disegnare, annotare il suo viaggio sotto diversi aspetti: territorio, natura, genti, flora, fauna, musica. Libro.
