The latter means that large models are no longer required to carry the bulky items that made up early radio control equipment, so smaller models can be built more quickly at a lower cost. It might be thought that a smaller model might not perform as well as a large one but after designing and building twenty such small models the author has not found this to be a problem. In fact, the speed and economy with which they can be built has proven to be at a great advantage in that new ideas can be tried out before being used in larger models. This book details several different models, some of which have previously appeared in Model Boats magazine, which show that a small size and simple design does not mean inferior appearance or performance. It is also possible to scale up the plans to make larger models to suit your tastes.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Warships are often appealing subjects for working models, especially if there is a personal or family connection with a vessel. However, models based on warships can have a reputation for being difficult to build and safely operate. This can be avoided if the idea of 'Stand-Off Scale' is used. This is where the model will have the appearance of the full-size when sailing, but is a practical working model boat. To successfully build this type of working boat and minimize the problems that might occur, it is important to have some understanding of how such ships work. With this in mind, this book not only details all the information needed to design, outfit and operate a model warship, but also supplies information about how the boats operate. AUTHOR: Glynn Guest started building models as a schoolboy with free flight model aircraft leading to radio controlled models. He quickly realised that model boats tended to last longer than aircraft and definitely did not get stuck up in trees. Having a technical education, it soon became more rewarding to design his own models and learn how they work. He has worked in most areas of this hobby, but model warships have always been a favourite subject. Since the mid-70s, he has had many plans and articles published in international model magazines. 238 illustrations Warships are often appealing subjects for working models, especially if there is a personal or family connection with a vessel. The material covered includes: -The tools and materials needed -Radio controls -Hull design and details of different hull forms -Building the hull -Internal outfitting -The sides and superstructure -Painting -Sailing preparations Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
