In Deutschland gab es weder Auktionshäuser noch Händler, die sich auf dieses Gebiet spezialisiert hatten. Photogalerien machten ihre ersten Gehschritte. In dieser Zeit, also vor genau 20 Jahren, begann ich mit dem Sammeln von Kameras. Sammeln wurde zur süßen Sucht. Schon bald ergänzte ich meine Sammlung mit photographischen Bildern, Photoalben, Laterna magica, optischem Spielzeug, aber auch Photoliteratur. Daneben galt mein Interesse den Darstellungen des Photographenberufes: Ich sammelte Karikaturen, Skulpturen, Zeichnungen, Gemälde, Ex libris, Plakate sowie Photographien, auf denen Lichtbildner bei der Arbeit zu sehen sind. Das Sammeln geschah natürlich nicht wahllos, sondern entsprechend der selbst gesetzten Zielsetzung: Darstellen und Belegen der verschiedenen Entwicklungsstufen der Photogeschichte, sowohl unter technischen als auch kulturgeschichtlichen Aspekten. Man braucht wohl zehn Jahre, um zu erkennen, daß dieses Ziel auch nicht annähernd erreichbar ist. So lag es nahe, mich von dieser Sammlung zu trennen sie wurde 1983 in das Fotomuseum des Münchner Stadtmuseums integriert. Aber ein Sammler ist kein Sammler, wenn er nicht sofort eine neue Sammlung beginnt. Hatte ich bislang photographische Bilder unter dem Gesichtspunkt der chemischen Verfahren zusammengetragen, so sammelte ich jetzt Photographien unter künstlerischen Aspekten, neben der Porträtphotographie vor allem das Aktbildnis. In erster Linie liegt es am Sujet, am Bildinhalt, an der Ästhetik und Schönheit des weiblichen Körpers, weshalb ich diese Bilder sammle. So entstand in den letzten Jahren eine umfangreiche Photokunst-Samlung zum Thema Akt und Erotik, die die Frühzeit, beginnend bei etwa 1845, bis zur zeitgenössischen Lichtbildkunst umfaßt. gutes Exemplar, ordentlich Gern können sie Ihr Buch per Rechnung bestellen. The catalogue's atmospheric illustrations capture the rich tonal nuance of daguerreotypes, reclaiming their rightful place in the American visual arts of the period.   Scenic daguerreotypes, made over 175 years ago, are extremely rare today. Named after Louis Daguerre (1787-1851), daguerreotypes are the first widely practised type of photography, quite unlike any other: the result it is both an image and object, a unique vestige of its time and place. The selection presented here is almost entirely drawn from the private collection of American collector Greg French, who built it over a 40-year period into probably the largest of its kind. The types of scenery captured in these beautiful outdoor views are not limited to traditional landscapes: they include store fronts, hotels, cityscapes and cemeteries; rivers, waterfalls, ships and shipyards; schools, churches, houses and backyards; landscapes, farms, factories and gold mines; but also daguerreotype studios, railroads, marching bands and more. Together, these images build the fascinating picture of a young country not yet invaded by asphalt and concrete, metal poles, wires, cell-phone towers, traffic signs and cars.   Some noteworthy highlights include a Cincinnati street scene by the African American daguerreotypist James Presley Ball, his only known surviving outdoor view; the only outdoor daguerreotype taken by a woman, Charlotte Prosch; a California gold-mining scene by George H.
