Pamphlet. First edition of Rick Griffin's first book. Signed by the publisher and famous big wave surfer Greg Noll. This precedes Griffin's work in Surfer magazine, and by several years anticipates his fame as one of the preeminent psychedelic poster artists of the '60s counterculture who participated in the famous Joint Show exhibition, and gained notoriety for the Hendrix "Flying Eyeball," and the Dead's "Aoxomoxoa" poster among many others. Although the cover states "by Greg Noll" because he published the book, the inside cover attributes layout, writings, and drawings to Rick Griffin. Greg Noll was a champion big wave surfer who founded a prosperous business making surf boards, producing films and several surfing publications, as well as writing his memoir Da Bull: Life Over the Edge. Noll's signature is smudged but entirely legible, else near fine. Desirable as both the first book by a master of psychedelic art, and a surfing item from the heyday when interest in the sport exploded. Rare, first copy we've seen and no copies on OCLC.
