First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, WITHOUT DEDICATION, IN BLUE PEN, ON TITLE PAGE. No Jacket, greyish brown cloth boards, somewhat battered and dulled, corners badly bruised, slight lean, some browning to endpapers, but overall a reasonable copy of a scarce book. 314pp. An interesting book, by now forgotten Mill Hill (North London) author Guy Fletcher, written with insight into the life of a hairdresser's assistant in a smart West End establishment between the wars. A pretty girl, it is not surprising that Joan Munroe leaves to take up life as an actress in London theatre, with much information of what goes behind the stage, unknown to the ordinary playgoer. Those living in the area covered by the Hendon Times will readily recognise many local spots referred to in the book, the home of Joan Munroe, the heroine being at Finchley. The difficulty of tram and tube journeys are graphically dealt with. Scarce signed. Signed by Author(s).
