Vintage press photograph of Governor Arthur Harry Moore and inventor Thomas Edison standing with Edison's first phonograph on August 12, 1927, during an event held at Edison's home in West Orange, New Jersey, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the invention of the phonograph. Printed mimeo snipe and Wide World Photos stamp on the verso. Edison would live at his West Orange home, which he and others called "Glenmont," from 1886 until his death in 1931. From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, with touchups on the recto, slightly wavy and toned on the bottom edge.

From the Howard Moliff Collection, inscribed in thick black marker: "To Howard, The Best, Harry Sweets Edison." No place, no date, circa 1970. Inscription partially worn; otherwise fine. Edison joined Count Basie in 1937 and stayed with him until Basie broke up his band in 1950. He toured with Josephine Baker and accompanied Billy Holiday, Red Norvo, Woody Herman, and Lester Young.
