Soft cover. Condition: Good. pp425-427. Removed from OHIO ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL PUBLICATIONS VOLUME XIV, 1905. Edited by Fred J. Heer. In plastic report covers. Some of the articles from this volume may contain a first and/or last copied page. In 1778, a man named Darnell was with Daniel Boone and twenty six others, when they were captured by Indians and taken to Old Chillicothe. Darnell was able to escape by making a death defying leap of some thirty feet across a deep gorge, catching on to some bushes on the other side. Had he not made it, he would have died from the fall, but he chose to make the jump rather than to be retaken by the Indians and subjected to a slow and painful death. The Indians, after seeing his remarkable leap, believed that he was under the protection of the Great Spirit and spread the story of the most amazing feat they had ever witnessed.
