Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. This 244-page, Signed First Edition in VG+/VG condition is The Hookmen by Timothy Hillmer, published by the University Press of Colorado in 1994. Not an ex-library copy, this book, winner of the 1993 Colorado Fiction Award, has against it only some very modest yellowing of text's pages. The dust jacket, too, is quite nice/shiny/sound, but for some very slight shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine. The volume is SIGNED, beneath an inscription from the author, right under the author's printed name on the main Title Page. From the front inside jacket flap, "Not since James Dickey's classic Deliverance has there been a novel that succeeds in capturing the violent and beautiful world of the river and those who dare to travel down its turbulent waters. The Hookmen. is a haunting adventure set against the backdrop of the rugged Kern River in Southern California. It is the story of 19-year-old Roy Cruz, who struggles to care for his alcoholic father, and of the summer he takes a dangerous job with the Forest Service to make ends meet". Characters such as old Crawdad, Rita, and Walker soon make their appearances, and the story is off and running. . A "hookman", by the way, is one who searches for the drowned, and then drags them from their watery grave with metal hooks. I'll say no more, Reader, so as not to spoil a moment of this spell-binding, suspenseful tale. Check it out! Thank you very much!! Signed by Author(s).
