Seller: Old Book Surfer, Cambridge, NY, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Edition not stated. 8vo., 272 pgs. An artist's training manual, devoted to both aesthetics and techniques, mostly for ink drawing and shading. Chapter headings indicate the contents: pen drawing, foliage, linework in shadows, sketching from nature, aerial perspective, texture and colour, cross-hatching, etc. Binding is green cloth, and has some minor soiling, the blank endpapers show a strip of odd staining or bleaching, the source unknown, but its effect is immaterial to the book's structure. The book illustrates how drawing would have been taught in art schools of the day. The line illustrations are quite nice, and the text paper is coated, permitting fine detailing in the lino reproductions. Very good condition (no dust jacket).
