Mendelson (birth name of Nathaniel Tarn) on first page, with Tarn's occasional marginal pencilled markings throughout. Lightly tanned with trace shelf-soil; Very Good+. Gernet's excerpt from volume 2 focuses on Chinese Buddhists suicides by fire from the 5th to 10th century. This copy inscribed to noted poet, translator, and anthropologist Nathaniel Tarn (1928-2024). [89156]. Signed.
