About this Item: WIM, Oakland, 1989, First Edition, 1989. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. VG/NO DJ (As Issued), HB, Folio, 382 pgs. Originally published to share the owners love of their collection with the public, this folio containing 168 color plates of their painting collection now serves as a tombstone and obituary after the collection was totally destroyed in the Oakland hills inferno of October 20, 1991. This copy is warmly inscribed and signed by both authors to the former owner, obviously a very close friend, and presented to him as a Christmas present, with a christmas card dated 1989, even more warmly inscribed and signed by both, laid in, along with the book's publisher's prospectus. Another postcard from the Palm Springs Desert Museum is laid in, announcing their publication of the catalogue "California Grandeur and Genre" which contains photos of 47 of the author's paintings that were intended to be loaned to the museum for this exhibition. The author's spoke at the museum on December 12, 1991 about the collection and its loss just two months before. The exhibition instead proceeded with many similar paintings owned by friends of the authors lent in lieu of the paintings that were destroyed. The only flaw in an otherwise quite fine copy that is totally unmarked on the inside save for the authors inscription, are several long haphazard scratches to the rear board that were probably produced when this large heavy volume was placed prone on a flat surface on top of a small pebble that scratched the rear board when the book was moved around laterally, producing a series of thin surface scratches to the thin lavender cloth of the rear board. The front board is fine and with the pasted on color plate quite fine. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 5174-1-2
