HardBack. Condition: Very Good. No jacket. 3rd Impression, Folio Society 1979. Frontispiece and many full page plate illustrations from Litographs by the great Charles Keeping, coloured endpapers. Appears unopened and unread, very good clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscriptions or marks of any kind, firmly held in joints and hinges, clean crisp corners and edges. Strikingly bound in blue pictorial cloth featuring wraparound coloured illustration, trying to decide whether spine is slightly sunned as green, but brightness of gilt would suggest not, top edge purple, just noticed upper board gently bowed, thus reduced. Housed and protected by original blue slipcase gently browned and sllightly rubbed to lower shelf edge. A great addition to the library of reader and scholar alike, and increasingly uncommon. James was an English author, medievalist scholar and provost of Kings College Cambridge. Jamess work as a medievalist and scholar is still highly regarded, but he is best remembered for his ghost stories. He redefined the ghost story for the new century by abandoning many of the formal Gothic cliches of his predecessors.
