About this Item: William Collins, London and Glasgow. Brown stippled cloth. Condition: VG-Fine. 1st Editions. Full details available on request. This is clearly a privately bound collection with no original wrappers (if they were issued), but all have title-pages, numerous illustrations including two coloured ( for Lubbock's 'On Certain Relations between Plants and Insects' and unfolding chemical spectra (for Roscoe's The History of the Chemical Elements', a further unfolding plate precedes Whittaker's 'Physiology of the Hair and Skin' (a little crumpled along outer edge). Other ills. are mostly text-illustrations to Pengelly ('Antiquity of the Cave Men'), Wyville Thomson and Williamson's lecture on the Ice Age. Most pieces are in the 24-40 pp.range.The non-scientific contribution (the rest being issued by The Glasgow Science Lectures Association) is Taylor's 59 pp. 'How are the people of God to Deal with Idolatry?'. All contents clean, tight & unmarked, good endpapers, coverclean and bright with just hint of spine-end rubbing; spine title simply reads 'Lectures'. Several of these lectures are extremely scarce as first editions (Tyndall's and Wyville Thomson's) and many were unlisted elsewhere at time of cataloguing. Victorian popular science and science education at its height, with genuinely original contributions by eminent figures on occasion. Note: quoted non-UK shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range. Size: 11.5 Cms x 17 Cms. Seller Inventory # 007021
